Bringing History to Life
Built in 1939 as part of the government’s New Deal program
the Federal Courthouse has been a cornerstone of downtown Kansas City for over 70 years. A number of key historical figures influenced our nation from within this building. Harry Truman kept his offices there after his presidency, and future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was part of a legal team that represented the plaintiffs in numerous legal decisions that helped guide Kansas City and the nation through a time marked with radical change, came from the building’s courtrooms.
The architecture at Courthouse Lofts is a unique blend of Neo-Classical with Art Deco elements. Common spaces are characterized by large, open spaces, terrazzo floors and marble and wood wainscoting.
After a complete historic rehabilitation
the Courthouse was given new life as 176 new apartments in the heart of downtown Kansas City, steps from the River Market and just blocks from the Power and Light District.
